Job description

Language Revitalization Coordinator (FT)

Job description

The incumbent will be required to coordinate, and participant in, community Seneca language engagement sessions, create surveys, facilitate focus groups, one-on-one conversations between Elders and Community Members to discuss language revitalization strategies, as well as listen actively for other ideas and avenues to pursue. The Language Revitalization Coordinator will also be required to coordinate Language Camps/Gatherings, Storytelling Video Sessions, to assist in meeting the goals stated in the Seneca Language Strategic Plan. Moreover, a person in this position would be required to continue learning about Seneca culture and work toward acquiring a high level of Seneca language speaking proficiency.

Job qualification

Post-secondary education in relevant field and/or three years experience in a related field. The individual must have a minimum ACTFL proficiency rating (in the Seneca language) of intermediate Mid. Knowledge of Seneca cultural, customs, traditions, and practices is helpful. The incumbent must also consider enrolling in college classes for a higher education degree. Flexibility and creativity when finding solutions is a must, namely in the context of a start-up environment. Physical Requirements

  • Extended time standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for a distance of 100 feet. This position requires occasionally extended and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate objects
