SWIM ADVISORY IN EFFECT

Beach water samples are routinely collected at known recreation locations (beaches) of the Allegany, Cattaraugus and Oil Spring Territories. The beach water samples are analyzed for bacteria that may pose a threat to human health.

Results from the samples collected this week on 7/19/2022 indicate that the bacteria levels were above the recommended limits for recreation use at the FOLLOWING listed locations:

CATTARAUGUS TERRITORY
Nation Beach

Pinewoods Beach

Newtown Beach

ALLEGANY TERRITORY

Indian Park

Twin Ponds

It is recommended that you do not ingest or submerge yourself in these listed waters at this time.

Additional Information:

The maps included on this post show the recreation sample locations where water samples are routinely collected.

Activities such as swimming (submersion) should be avoided in all environmental waters (creeks, streams, beaches) for 72 hours following storm event.

Elevated bacteria levels can persist after a rainstorm depending upon the intensity of the storm, volume of runoff and current water conditions.
