Job description

The Lead Teacher is responsible for overall classroom operations, providing quality care, education, and supervision to children in a daycare or early childhood setting. Community Outreach Educator (FT)

The incumbent will work to engage the public in learning the Seneca language and encourage participation in community Seneca language use activities. The coordinator must have an intermediate mid Seneca proficiency level or higher and be prepared to use the Seneca language throughout the workday.  The incumbent will host various classes for the community and teach community members about the importance of participation in Seneca language revitalization. The incumbent will also assist with developing useful language resources, such as video lessons, children’s books, activity books, etc. Moreover, a person in this position would be required to continue learning about Seneca culture and work toward acquiring an advanced level of Seneca language speaking proficiency.

Job qualification

High school Graduate or Equivalent, plus five years’ experience working with elders, children, and/or interacting with the public. The individual must have a minimum proficiency rating (in the Seneca language) of Intermediate Mid, have a solid understanding of Seneca cultural knowledge, and aim to obtain teacher certification, as required by the Allegany Language Department. Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License, as travel between Nation Territories is required.  Attends a substantial number of evening and weekend meetings when required.
