Job description

Job qualification

High school Graduate or Equivalent, plus five years’ experience working with elders, children, and/or interacting with the public. The individual must have a minimum proficiency rating (in the Seneca language) of Intermediate Mid, have a solid understanding of Seneca cultural knowledge, and aim to obtain teacher certification, as required by the Allegany Language Department. Job description

Recovery Peer Advocate will provide direct services to community members struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) through every stage of their process from chaotic substance use to long-term abstinence. Will serve as a mentor, advocate, motivator, and role model for people with SUD. Incumbent will promote recovery and aid individuals with overcoming barriers and obstacles to recovery, while assisting with the development of a recovery support system. Recovery Peer Advocate will model competence and the possibility of recovery and assist in developing the perspectives and skills that facilitate recovery. The Recovery Peer Advocate must demonstrate an ability to share personal experience and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. Obtaining and Maintaining Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) certification will receive compensation upon verification. Negotiable rates are raised contingent on maintaining certification.

Job qualification

Must have first-hand experience with addiction and recovery, an understanding of the substance abuse delivery system, a basic knowledge of and experience in self-help, coping skills and recovery. Individual must have deep understanding of and respect for each individual’s unique path in making sustainable and positive life change as it relates to SUD. Recovery Peer Advocate must have knowledge and experience navigating the drug and alcohol treatment system, experience providing overdose prevention education and Narcan training. Recovery Peer Advocate must have experience with harm reduction techniques and be comfortable applying as needed. Able to work with individuals and groups, the ability to communicate effectively, and available to work a flexible schedule. Must maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA Laws. Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.  Must have competent technological skills and specifically be able to work with Microsoft Office & Windows Software. Must have the ability to work in a diverse cultural environment.  Knowledge of Seneca customs, traditions, and practices is helpful.  Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary. Strong organizational skills and the ability to understand and manage high-profile, sensitive, or controversial projects. Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work independently.
