Samples collected 9/7/2022
Beach water samples are routinely collected at known recreation locations (beaches) of the Allegany, Cattaraugus and Oil Spring Territories. The beach water samples are analyzed for bacteria that may pose a threat to human health.
Results from the samples collected this week on 9/7/2022 indicate that the bacteria levels were above the recommended limits for recreation use at the FOLLOWING listed locations:
CATTARAUGUS TERRITORY
Newtown Beach
Pinewoods Beach
Nation Beach
ALLEGANY TERRITORY
Indian Park
Bear Claw
Twin Ponds
High Banks
It is recommended that you do not ingest or submerge yourself in these listed waters at this time.
Additional Information:
Our last scheduled water sampling event for the year was Wednesday, September 7th, 2022.
Water sampling at recreation sites is planned to resume next year, June 2023.
Please note that bacteria levels may be higher at this time due to recent rainstorm events.
Elevated bacteria levels can persist after a rainstorm depending upon the intensity of the storm, volume of runoff and current water conditions.
Activities such as swimming (submersion) should be avoided in all environmental waters (creeks, streams, beaches) for 72 hours following storm event.
