** ATTENTION COMMUNITY – SWIM ADVISORY IN EFFECT **
Water Samples are routinely collected at known recreation locations (beaches) of the Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Oil Spring Territories. The beach samples are analyzed for bacteria that may pose a threat to human health.
Results from this weeks’ sampling event conducted on 6/16/2022, indicate that the bacteria levels were above the recommended limits for recreation use, at the FOLLOWING red listed locations:
CATTARAUGUS TERRITORY
Nation Beach
Pinewoods Beach
Newtown Beach
ALLEGANY TERRITORY
None at Present
OIL SPRINGTERRITORY
None at Present
It is recommended that you do not ingest or submerge yourself in these red listed waters at this time.
Additional Information:
Activities such as swimming (submersion) should be avoided in all environmental waters (creeks, streams, beached) for 72 hours following rain event.
Elevated bacteria levels can persist after a rainstorm depending upon the intensity of the storm, volume of runoff and ocean and current conditions.
